That seems right. The Southern alligator lizard (Elgaria multicarinata), according to Wikipedia, "can frequently be found near human habitation and are notable for their fearless self-defense," but make good pets. They eat things like slugs, crickets, and birds.
And their jaws are very strong...I can't remember which of my kids you could ask about that, but I believe it might be David. No blood, just hanging on to a finger.
Gecko behavior. I've only seen green geckos. Good photo.
