Thanksgiving in Placerville

We had a nice day here in Placerville. It is raining this morning, but Thanksgiving was bright and comfortable. We had a full house of twenty year old guys. With Debbie, Doris, Cindy, Brianna, and Shawntea here, Beth wasn't as out numbered as in previous years. Lots of good food and company. Yea to Beth for preparing such a delicious dinner. And as a special bonus there are lots of left overs for sons to take home. Family members not present were missed but were here in spirit. All in all a great day.

Brianna is helping with peeling the apples for the apple pies. Beth, Doris and Andrew share a light hearted moment in the kitchen. Grandmother and her grandsons. Steve added an extention to the table to fit everyone. How blessed to have these moments together.

I am proud of all the guys. Each is striving in his own way to make it in this world. I am glad I get to see them and have some time to talk to them. I deeply appreciate times like these.

  1. WOW! What a great crowd--wish we could have been there. But, we had a good time too.

We arrived at the Episcopal church here is Whittier at 11:30 AM for volunteer orientation to help serve lunch to people who came for a warm meal to celebrate Thanksgiving. Anyone who asked, got as much thanksgiving turkey as they could eat or carry. There must have been 50 or so volunteers--lots of high schoolers, college kids and a few of our age and older. We stood in line to serve families and individuals from a wide variety of circumstances the didn't allow them to have their meal at their own domicile.

Even though I took my camera with me, I decided that I didn't want to look like some kind of tourist and left it in the car.

After serving lunch and cleaning up the kitchen, we went to see Walk the Line. And, then to Black Angus for our own Thanksgiving dinner. Obviously not as good as what you guys were eating, but adequate.

  2. The photos and words shared help me feel like I was there. It is amazing to share life with all those young men. It is our privilege to stand by them. The picture of Brianna is way too cute. Love that! And the table looked lovely, typical of the Beth touch. Glad you all had a good day together. And you may not have leftovers, either, if the boys all took off with them!
