Rob told me that he was at Hole in the Wall at Cedar Grove, CA where highway 180 ends. So, I found a new weather Sticker from Weather Underground for that geography. It took a bit to make it work as they do not have our old format for stickers any more.
Let me know if you want any other weather updates here.

Tour of California start at Lake Tahoe Sunday, May 15
AS I type this, the National Weather Service is predicting 1-3 inches of snow for Lake Tahoe, CA tomorrow, the day that the Tour of California is scheduled to start. The website says there are contingency plans. I know I have seen video of other races taking place in the snow. Guess the move to May didn't make cold weather impossible.
This is the current weather report:

Record-breaking 113 degrees in downtown L.A.
Today is the hottest day ever recorded in downtown L.A. At 12:15 p.m., the weather station at USC hit the 113-degree mark, breaking the old all-time high of 112, set on June 26, 1990.
It makes today the hottest day since records in downtown L.A. started being kept in 1877, said Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service.

Rain!
We measure rain by the wetness of the Dog. Gramma Doris measured half an inch overnight. There must have been more than that during the day. Stay tuned.

Promise of summer coming
Even if there is only 3 seconds more daylight today than there was yesterday, it is a hint of the promise of summer coming!

Weather, precipitation, and your geography
The weather people on our TV stations are in a frenzy about rain. First reports were calling for rain today. Now, it's 80% chance for tomorrow. Kinda cool here today in the 60's. No rain here yet.
But, if you are in Placerville, the weather people are saying 100% chance of snow tomorrow with a high of 32. It's only 31 in Akron with 30% chance of snow tomorrow.
I got some leaves racked off our roofs and a few branches trimmed off of trees today. Cindi has Christmas music playing. Must be December.

In Placerville . . .
It's cold and snowing. Yikes!
Stevii and Cindii are playing Wii golf.
Tomorrow we'll be at a lower elevation in Sacramento. Forty percent chance of rain. I think that means if you line up 10 cyclists, 4 of them will get wet.
That will be a lot of wet professional cyclists

Crystal Lake update
The Latest News from Crystal Lake (CA) is that Caltrans has finished working on a bridge on Hwy 39. What about the campground? "The campgrounds have been completely restored with all driving surfaces repaved and painted."
We still don't know when the road will be open to cars, let alone when the campground will re-open. Another project is scheduled for May-September.
Any more rain reports, Grandma? They say we'll have more soon.

Doris' rain update
I had 2.5" rain overnight to Saturday. I went out around midnight and the cup was a little tilted because of the wind but I don't think I missed much. At that time it was at 1/2 "
So glad to be able to track it as I can.

How hot was it?
And, the other question, how do you know if it's hot?
I think there are a variety of ways to know if you are hot. Fritz, the weather comedian on Channel 4 pointed out that heat causes moist glowing skin. LA county is investigating the deaths of 16 people over the weekend to see what the role of the heat was in their demise.
This is what it looked like right here on the Family Blog yesterday:

Our thermometer with sensor on the back porch reported this sometime on Labor Day:

And our patio:

How can you tell if you are hot?

Last Tuesday there was a fire
Even from our house there was no smoke or fire visible, anyone near Whittier could see the smoke billowing over the hill. Cindi noticed that the helicoptors were rotating through Leg Lake, so we decided to go take a look for ourselves.

There were 5 of them, taking turns dipping into the lake and filling up through their straw.

And flying back over to the fire that was actually in Hacienda Heights.
